About Colin

I think I was born to travel. I grew up in Scotland where my school teacher parents took me and my two brothers camping, walking and cycling in the summer break. As members of the Cubs and Scouts we took part in many other outdoor adventures all around Scotland including kayaking and skiing. As we grew up, my adventures went further afield.

My first overseas trip was a school excursion to Austria by train from Edinburgh and I still remember watching the different villages flash past. Although I don’t drink coffee, the smell of fresh ground coffee always reminds me of this trip.

On leaving school I started a career in supermarket management but very soon realised there had to be much more in life than four weeks annual holiday and working Saturdays. So I quit and planned to take a year to travel around the world. Six years and many countries and experiences later, I found myself living in Australia working in the travel industry.

Now I have a wealth of experience across the total travel spectrum from wholesale to retail, from operations to guiding and from teaching to story writing and travel photography. I have now been in the travel industry for over forty years.
