England

Not a big country but so many places which combine history and culture. There are so many places of natural beauty in this country which makes it hard to decide where to go first. You can walk or cycle through Shakespeare's Cotswolds or walk from coast to coast with Wainwright. For something a bit tougher look no further than The Lakes District with its high mountains, deep valleys and, of course, lakes. There aren't many places in the world where you can have a day on the hill followed by a pint of bitter in the local pub followed by a night in one of the many B&Bs. If Roman history is your passion then walk with the Roman Emperor Hadrian along his namesake wall.

Colin's Suggestion

If you are not a fan of moving on each day to new accommodation then stay in one place and do day walks. England is just full of stately homes and secluded B&Bs where you can walk or cycle during the day and spend the evening having a pint in the local inn.
